Brain Talk: A Community Forum
Presented by Sarasota Memorial’s Neuroscience Department, this free community event will be held 8:30 am to noon May 17 in the hospital’s first floor auditorium, 1700 S. Tamiami Trail. Event will include physician lectures, blood pressure screenings, refreshments and information tables.

HealthSquare – May Events
Join our staff at Sarasota Memorial HealthSquare, located in the center of Westfield Sarasota Square, for free health presentations and FootNotes, a book club featuring mall walks and health education discussions with SMH experts.

This month, Miriam Lacher, LMHC, will discuss “The Power of Resiliency” at 1 pm May 28, and FootNotes will feature a discussion of relaxation techniques and the book Many Lives, Many Masters by Brian Weiss, 1-2:30 pm May 21. Call (941) 302-4271 or email for information.

School Sports Physicals – Just $20
Sarasota Memorial is offering $20 school sports physicals at its five urgent care centers (located in Sarasota, Venice and Manatee) throughout the summer.

The centers are open 8 am-8 pm daily, including most holidays.

Campaign Against Summer Hunger
Join Sarasota Memorial in supporting All Faiths Food Bank’s CASH campaign (Campaign Against Summer Hunger) to help ensure 21,000 Sarasota County students on free and reduced lunch continue to have access to regular meals during the summer.

Drop off food donations at any Goodwill or Fire Station, or place your change in the cash donation containers at the hospital’s cafés and Gift Shop, through May 10.Learn more at

Big Strides with Exercise
If you’re living with Parkinson’s, Multiple Sclerosis or a progressive neurological disorder, Sarasota Memorial HealthFit offers customized fitness activities like aquatic exercises, indoor cycling, dancing, gentle yoga, tai chi, and strength training to help you overcome neuro-based challenges.

HealthFit’s Big Strides with Exercise program focuses on improving strength, range of motion, balance, posture and breathing, under the close supervision of HealthFit’s qualified staff members and in connection with referring physicians, therapists and the Neuro Challenge Foundation’s Medical Director Dean Sutherland, MD.  A physician referral is not necessary to join the program.

National Cancer Survivors’ Day
Local cancer survivors are invited to a special afternoon celebrating life, laughter and music, 1-3 pm Sunday, June 1, at Michael’s on East, 1212 East Ave., Midtown Plaza, Sarasota.

The annual event is free, but seating is limited to participant and one guest.
