Sarasota/Manatee Heart Walk
Join Team SMH at the Sarasota/Manatee 5K Heart Walk (1-mile survivor route available) Saturday, Sept. 12, at Nathan Benderson Park, 5851 Benderson Circle, Sarasota.

Activities begin at 7:30 am, followed by the walk at 8 am. SMH team shirts will be given to walkers who raise or make a $25 donation to the American Heart Association Sarasota/Manatee Heart Walk.

SMH Speech/Language Pathology Services Expands to Heritage Harbour
Starting Sept. 14, in addition to the existing Parkinson’s Voice Therapy (LSVT® Loud) program, a full complement of speech/language therapies will be available at Sarasota Memorial’s Care Center at Heritage Harbour in east Manatee County weekdays 1-5 pm by appointment.

Sarasota Memorial’s speech/language pathologists specialize in the evaluation, prevention and treatment of speech, language, cognitive-voice, fluency and swallowing disorders. A physician referral is required.

Cognitive Aging: How to Save Your Brain
Join Sarasota Memorial physicians and clinical staff 8-9 am Friday, Sept. 18, for a special Grand Rounds in Sarasota Memorial’s first floor auditorium, 1700 S. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota.

Grand Rounds is a medical education teaching series for clinical hospital staff and not generally open to the public; however, due to the community interest in this topic, the session is free and open to the public.

Bruce Robinson, MD, Chief of Geriatrics at Sarasota Memorial, will lead a discussion of the new Institute of Medicine report on Cognitive Aging, the difference between cognitive aging and Alzheimer's disease and the role lifestyle and medical treatment play in brain function through our lifespan.

Falls Prevention Series
Join our physical/occupational therapists in SMH HealthConnection, 1700 S. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota, from 1 to 2 pm daily Sept. 21-25 for a free Falls Prevention series.

Experts will be discussing balance issues, medication safety, better balance exercises and vision issues, culminating Friday with a free gait analysis and balance screening.

Wellness Coaching
Sarasota Memorial HealthFit’s next Wellness Coaching session starts Sept. 21.

The 4-week program includes a one-month free membership to HealthFit, the only medically integrated fitness center in the area, a health risk assessment, four coaching sessions with a certified personal trainer, a nutrition consultation with a registered dietitian and four group-training sessions.

The Big Disconnect – Protecting Childhood & Family Relationships in the Digital Age
Parents and professionals are invited to this free community event presented by Forty Carrots Family Center.

Internationally recognized clinical psychologist and author Catherine Steiner-Adair, EdD. will share strategies to help families skillfully limit screen time, regain meaningful family connections and create a positive digital experience for children and families.
