Sarasota Memorial offers hyperbaric oxygen therapy to treat various conditions, including side effects from diabetes and radiation treatment. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy involves breathing 100% oxygen at a pressure greater than the surrounding atmosphere. This therapy can stimulate the growth of new blood vessels, tissue and bone cells, which can, in turn, accelerate the healing process.

Approved Conditions for Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

  • Diabetic Non-healing Ulcer
  • Osteomyelitis (Refractory)
  • Delayed Radiation Injury (Soft Tissue and Bony Necrosis)
  • Air or Gas Embolism
  • Carbon Monoxide Poisoning

  • Clostridial Myositis and Myonecrosis (Gas Gangrene)
  • Crush Injury, Compartment Syndrome and Other Acute Traumatic Ischemia's
  • Decompression Sickness
  • Arterial Insufficiencies:
  • Central Retinal Artery Occlusion
  • Severe Anemia
  • Intracranial Abscess
  • Necrotizing Soft Tissue Infections
  • Compromised Grafts and Flaps
  • Acute Thermal Burn Injury
  • Idiopathic Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss

Patients must first be evaluated by physicians from the Hyperbaric Medicine program to determine whether this therapy will benefit their individual condition.

The Hyperbaric Medicine Department, located on Sarasota Memorial’s main campus, has two climate-controlled hyperbaric chambers that provide therapy for patients. Please note that this is a non-emergent hyperbaric center. The Hyperbaric Medicine Department is open Monday through Friday.
