Affordable Health Care ActCoverage Expansion: Support a Healthy Florida

Health care coverage is one of the most important issues facing our state. It affects all Floridians – whether they already have health insurance or not. When those without insurance rely on expensive emergency room visits for care, it increases health care costs for everyone.

Despite the fact that most have jobs, approximately 4 million low-income Floridians do not have access to affordable health insurance. A serious illness can be devastating.

Florida is facing an important decision point. The state has the opportunity to use over $50 billion in federal funds to extend health care coverage to 1 million or more working Floridians, giving them access to primary and preventative care that will help them avoid serious illnesses, get early treatments and stay productive. For Sarasota Memorial and other hospitals, it means having more resources that benefit every patient. If you'd like to join a coalition of businesses and individuals who support the extension of coverage, or want to let your legislator know how much this issue matters to all of us, please click here.
