Nursing Orientation

Nursing orientation at Sarasota Memorial Health Care System is held biweekly. The Nursing Mission, Vision, Values, quality and safety initiatives, strategic plans, and our Patient Care Delivery Model are presented. The ANCC Magnet Recognition Program 5 Domains are emphasized as the framework for the nursing standards of care.

The orientation focuses on the use of Human Patient Simulation in the Simulation Lab. This provides an interactive yet dynamic program of learning experiences in a safe environment through simulated patient scenarios.

New graduate nurses orient on the Nurse Residency Unit with a designated clinical coach (preceptor). Although orientation goals are individualized, critical thinking and technical skills and interpersonal relationships are emphasized.

New staff also complete computer training, electronic medical record documentation, and other web based training modules.
