United Way Names SMH Among Sarasota’s Most Generous Partners

United Way Suncoast has unveiled the 50 Most Generous Workplaces in the Sarasota area for 2014. Sarasota Memorial Health Care System was ranked #4 for philanthropic contributions from the organization and its employees.

Combined, the top five organizations and their employees donated more than $1 million during the previous year’s workplace campaign.

“Sarasota is often referred to as Florida’s most generous community. Our corporate partners and their team members are an exceptional example when it comes to giving back to the Sarasota area,” said Katie Knight, Sarasota Area President, United Way Suncoast Corporate Social Responsibility, recognizing the Top 50 partners.

United Way praised all of the workplaces for creating a culture of giving that includes supporting a company-wide United Way annual campaign enabling employees to donate through simple payroll deductions. Workplace campaigns require an investment of time and resources by the leadership of these organizations to plan and organize information sessions, fund special events, and have even included leadership dunk tanks or pies in the face – all in the spirit of helping people in need. In addition to financial investments, many of these workplaces encourage staff to volunteer on a regular basis through United Way.

Much of the money raised will be dedicated to initiatives that help break the cycle of generational poverty. United Way Suncoast’s five-year strategic plan includes prioritizing educational programs that give children the skills to succeed and help adults achieve long-term financial stability so they can support themselves and their families.
