Celebration of Hope Keystone Award Winners to be honored during April recognition event

SARASOTA, FL – The Center for Building Hope today announced that James V. Fiorica, MD, will receive the organizations highest honor, the Stephen H. Goldman, MD, Keystone Award.   In addition, Marie Borsellino, RN, OCN, and Angela Long will join Dr. Fiorica as this year’s Keystone award recipients.

James V. Fiorica, MDEach year, the Center for Building Hope recognizes medical professionals and lay people who have shown extraordinary service and commitment to the cancer community for this prestigious honor.  The Keystone Award honors will be presented during the “Celebration of Hope” dinner event that will be held on Thursday, April 25, 2013, 6:00 p.m. at Michael’s on East, Sarasota.

Dr. Fiorica is a nationally recognized gynecologic surgeon dedicated to investigative research and effective treatments for gynecologic cancer. Dr. Fiorica leads the Women’s Cancer Care program at Sarasota Memorial and works in a collaborative role with gynecology, internal medicine, family practice and medical oncology practitioners. 

As principle investigator for the Gynecological Oncology Group (GOG), a division of the National Cancer Institute, Dr. Fiorica has introduced new therapies and provided access to clinical trials to the local Sarasota community of women.  Dr. Fiorica’s practice affiliation is with First Physicians Group of Sarasota.

Marie Borsellino, RN, OCNMarie Borsellino, RN, OCN, the medical professional honoree, is the Breast Health Navigator at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. Marie guides women from a cancer diagnosis through treatment and reconstruction serving as a devoted and knowledgeable patient advocate.  Her continual outreach efforts help educate women about breast health and breast cancer with a particular focus on the uninsured woman in the region.

Angela Long, the layperson honoree, is a breast cancer survivor who was diagnosed in 2004 as a young mother of two children.  Thankful for a second chance, Angela is a fundraiser for non-profits while educating family, friends and acquaintances on the importance of breast cancer screening and early detection.  She continues to help breast cancer survivors during their courageous journey through treatment.  Long’s “Breast Investigator” website ( is an invaluable resource for women and men dealing with breast cancer and is dedicated to taking the mystery out of breast cancer.  

Ticket sales and event sponsorships for the 12th Annual Celebration of Hope dinner and awards ceremony help continue the Center for Building Hope’s important work.  Board Chair, Carol Ann Kalish and Honorary Chair Dr. Issam S. Soussou, will present the awards during the evening.
