SMH Auxiliary Honors Volunteers, Installs 2015-2016 Board

SMH Auxiliary LuncheonSARASOTA, Fla. (Nov. 9, 2015) – Sarasota Memorial’s Volunteer Auxiliary celebrated more than 65 years of service at its annual Installation Luncheon Oct. 21 and appointed its 2015-2016 Board of Directors.

All Auxiliary volunteers were invited to attend the event at Michaels on East, along with the newly elected and past board members of the Volunteer Auxiliary, members of the Sarasota County Public Hospital Board and hospital staff. Sarasota Memorial Health Care System President & CEO David Verinder and Stacy Scott Berteau, Sarasota Memorial’s Director of Volunteer Services recognized the Auxiliary for its more than 65 years of service and essential role volunteers serve throughout the health care system.

Two volunteers received “President Awards” from outgoing President Dorothy Zeigler:

  • Dorothy “Dot” Butler was honored for more than 25 years of service. She currently volunteers two days a week in the hospital Gift Shop and has provided more than 10,700 hours of service.
  • Debbie Craddock also was honored for her volunteer work the past six years. She has given over 1,400 hours of service.  

The Auxiliary also installed its new officers to guide the Auxiliary over the next 12 months:

  • Edward “Ed” Miller, President – The newly elected President will serve for the next two years, reporting the Auxiliary activities to the SMH Hospital Board and assisting in orienting new volunteers to the Auxiliary and Hospital. 
  • Timothy Smith, 1st Vice President – A new board member, he will be responsible for the fund raising activities of the Auxiliary and assist the President.
  • Arlene Howell, 2nd Vice President – A new board member, Howell will be responsible for assisting with fund raising efforts and organizing Auxiliary meetings and special events.
  • Kathy Frait, Correspondence Secretary – A new board member, she will coordinate internal and media relations for the Auxiliary.  
  • Lori Gabbert, Recording Secretary – Re-elected to the Board, Gabbert will maintain minutes of the Board meetings and Auxiliary governance records.   
  • Dan Trigg, Treasurer  – Re-elected to the Board, Trigg will serve as the Treasurer.

 

About the SMH Auxiliary
The SMH Auxiliary mission is to support health care in Sarasota County.   In that role, the Auxiliary raises funds from various sales in the Hospital and uses those funds to provide scholarships to high school seniors in Sarasota county who met specific criteria.  The principal criteria are to major in a health care related field, maintain a specific grade point average, and come from a family with household income under $50,000.  To date the Auxiliary has provided over $300,000 in scholarships and grants to the community. The SMH Auxiliary is a stand-alone corporation and is a 501-c-3 entity.”
